We sat down with Daisy Bower, one of Foodz’s own and a 2026 bride, to hear what she had to say about marriage preparation. Keep reading to get some tips and tricks that one may not think about when planning a wedding…
What’s a “good to know” tip that others may not know about after getting engaged?
I’d suggest couples get their engagement ring insured right away. It’s a practical tip I learned from family, not social media, and it provides peace of mind. Regarding celebrations, announcing on social media and calling close friends and family felt like enough of a celebration for me personally, so I skipped a formal engagement party. Remember, it’s your wedding and your special moment, so do what feels right for you!
What should be your first steps when wedding planning?
I would say finalizing the guest list early is crucial, as it directly impacts venue selection. For instance, I loved Thornewood Castle, but its indoor capacity of 50 people quickly narrowed my options. Another common mistake couples make is delaying venue tours. I started immediately, hoping to secure a venue before Valentine’s Day when I anticipated more couples would begin their search.
Do you feel like being in the industry helped you out in your planning?
A significant mistake I’ve seen in my past, especially if not in the industry, is forgoing a wedding planner or at least a day-of coordinator. Having a professional point of contact allows the couple to fully enjoy their wedding day, and planners also have invaluable connections to the best vendors and handle all the intricate back-end details that many couples might overlook!
How did you handle the workload that planning a wedding may bring?
To slow down and enjoy the moment without feeling rushed, I recommend aiming for at least a year-long engagement. I also found it helpful to be highly productive on certain weekends, allowing for more relaxed periods afterward without feeling behind schedule. The engagement stage should be savored, as it (hopefully) only happens once!
